A wedding in April this year with hundreds of people attending, where the first dance song is performed by Steve Garrigan from Kodaline, and the whole wedding is MC’d by two local radio presenters.
Sounds a bit far fetched when we all know that lockdown measures in April meant weddings couldn’t take place...right?
But it did happen! And here's how...
Back in April of this year, Oxfordshire radio station 106.8 JACKfm, breakfast show presenters Trev and Rich from "JACK's Morning Glory" had an idea to hold a virtual wedding, hosted in “the church of zoom”. The presenters found Bride and Groom, Louise and Stefan, two NHS key workers from Abingdon. The couple were originally meant to get married on April 29th, 2020, but like many couples, found their wedding being postponed due to the coronavirus.
Trev and Rich still wanted Louise & Stefan’s day to be special, so organised everything including a wedding dress for Louise to wear and a wedding cake for the to couple cut. Lynn Tierney, an award-winning local celebrant, stepped in to perform the ceremony. Waitrose in Abingdon donated champagne, a small buffet and flowers to the couple, whilst The Wriggly Monkey Brewery provided refreshments to the happy couple, I put myself forward to film and edit the virtual wedding and of course Steve Garrigan from Kodaline surprised Lousie & Stefan with a live acoustic performance of The One.
Everyone was invited to join the happy couple, their friends, family, Trev and Rich on facebook live on the day the couple’s wedding would have taken place. People were also asked instead of wedding gifts, to support Oxford Hospitals Charity, a charity chosen by NHS workers Stefan and Louise, that supports patients and staff working across local Oxfordshire hospitals.
